Amos "Bud" Tietjen




Amos Junior "Bud" Tietjen, 89, of Ammon, passed away July 3, 2009, at his home following lingering illnesses caused from strokes.

Amos lived a full and happy life of hard work, love and service. He was born March 13, 1920, in Bluewater, N.M., to Amos Tietjen and Barbara Lorena Cluff Tietjen. He attended Bluewater Elementary School, Grants High School in New Mexico and graduated from Mesa High School in Arizona. He served as a technical sergeant in the Marine Corps during World War II. He served an LDS mission to the Western States Mission.

He married Beth Davenport on June 14, 1944, in Mesa, Ariz. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on July 18, 1947. He worked as a rackman and mechanic for El Paso Natural Gas in Prewitt, N.M., and for Shell Oil in Gallup, N.M. In 1965, they made their home in Ammon, where he worked as a television and radio technician for El-Gene's in Rexburg and Merlin's TV in Idaho Falls.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a counselor in the bishopric in New Mexico and as a Stake High Priest financial secretary in Idaho Falls. He served in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 30 years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed ham radio, electronics and mechanics. He was a loving father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wonderful wife of 65 years, Beth Davenport Tietjen of Ammon; children, Ronald A. (Diane) Tietjen and Bill Ira (Cindy) Tietjen, both of Rexburg, Kathy Loreen Tietjen (Allen Jr.) Payne and Relda Tietjen (Lonnie) Jacobson, both of Rigby, and Bruce (Jill) Tietjen of Ammon; siblings, Ernest Nelo Teitjen, Barbara (Anton) Richardson and Ora Amanda (Wally) Sabin, all of Mesa, Ariz., Ruth (Bob) Lowery of Bluewater, N.M., and Iris (Francis) Bunker of Lions, Colo.; 36 grandchildren; and 78 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, one son-in-law and two infant grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 10, at the Ammon 1st Ward, 3000 Central Ave., with Bishop Jim Summers officiating. The family will visit with friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Wood East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Ammon Cemetery with military rites by Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and the Idaho Honor Guard. Condolences may be sent to the family at http://www.woodfuneralhome.com/.

Sorry about your sweet Grandpa. I was married with three kids when Papa died and it was still hard to say goodbye! Love you guys!
